Sharing Something New

Greetings from the Ocoee! If you’re visiting my site for the first time, “Welcome,” and if you’re returning, “Thanks for coming back!” It’s been a  fabulous summer on and off the river – great time with Lisa and Seu Jane, lots of kayaking with students and friends and some very cool broadcasting projects too.

But there’s been one project I’ve been working on a for several weeks that I’m excited to now share with friends. I’m partnering with accomplished author, lifestyle entrepreneur and Career Renegade, Jonathan Fields on a personal development program called Basecamp Renegade. The idea is pretty simple – we’re combining ideas and concepts from Jonathan’s book, Career Renegade, and putting them into action of the adventure sports kind and converting them into meaningful and authentic learning experiences for our guests. Our inaugural program takes place September 25-27 at the U.S. National Whitewater Center in Charlotte, NC.

This program is a natural step for me. For too long, I’ve watched the life-altering elements of kayak instruction and coaching in a way that could positively affect people far beyond the river simply pass too many of them by. I’m ready to change that. Five years past my last high level canoe race and into a new phase of my life with Lisa and Seu Jane, the timing is perfect. Working with Jonathan on a program like Basecamp Renegade, kayaking and my other favorite outdoor sports are not the destination but a launching point for getting there.

From here, there are few ways you can help:

1. Check out Jonathan/the book. It’s not often that I find myself playing the role of public book reviewer but Career Renegade is a good read that reinforces so many key ideas to living better. First, for many, Jonathan’s story is a humbling a wake-up call and more than a subtle reminder that life is short. Second, Career Renegade’s ideas and concepts tap into the same renegade spirit I enjoy about kayaking and other outdoor sports. More about the book here.jonathan fields career renegade image

2. Share the program. One of the most interesting parts about the world we’re living in right now is the ability to quickly share, communicate and endorse appealing ideas, goals, progress and change. If our program resonates with you and you feel it would be a good fit for someone you know, I’d be grateful if you’d consider forwarding this link.

3. Talk to me. No doubt that sharing Basecamp Renegade helps me to be more accountable to the program itself. But I’m also hungry for your feedback. I welcome your thoughts, gut reaction and critique.

Thanks for taking a few minutes to read along and being a part of this step.

    Joe,
Great job of softly introducing the weekend workshop. I just registered and look forward to an exciting and educational weekend. Call me and we can discuss some suggestions.

    Joe,

I like the post and the workshop description – wish I had something constructive to offer. I emailed the workshop link to a few friends whom it might interest.

    See you Tuesday!

@Ken Thanks for your feedback and ideas – all goo and helpful.

@Lisa – thanks for your support with the program – appreciate it!

  • Joe,

I like where ya’ll are going with this and haven’t even read the book yet. I will drop this in the ears of the paddling community up here as well as those that have yet to discover the fun of “River Run”. Paddling really has been a lifeline for me. I will do my best to get to the workshop.

    Sincerely,
    Mati :-)

Thanks for the good word, Mati. You will enjoy the book and Jonathan is a great follow on Twitter too – @JonathanFields. Thanks for your support – means a lot, my friend!

  • Joe,

I LOVE IT! This is a great concept. Nothing helps you move on like getting out of your comfort zone to find that you can truly do something extraordinary. Every budding entrepreneur should attend Basecamp Renegade or anyone who just wants to enhance their life. I have a few friends that I will send the link to. Just started following Jonathan on Twitter too.

    Wishing you much success!!
    Lisa

Thanks for the support, Lisa. Every day out on the water or the trail seems to bring new learning experiences into the equation – it’s never the same thing twice. Yet opening yourself to the idea of framing these activities is the critical starting place. I’m really looking forward to kayaking with you at some point! When can we do that?
