Finding Purpose Beyond The Paddle
We all know that kayaking is a cool sport, full of great people and takes us to amazing destinations. But paddlers creating and finding purpose in kayaking is my new favorite part of the sport. Think Brad Ludden or Joe Mornini. Now add fellow kayak instructor, father, and friend Bill Hester to that list as “Paddling For a Purpose” takes him on a 1,000 mile journey from Bryson City, North Carolina to Mobile, Alabama raising scholarship dollars in his father’s memory. A week into his trip, Bill reflects on the “nuts and bolts” of turning your a favorite activity into something more purposeful:

Love what he said – “I’m not a hero, I’m just doing what I love”. very cool.
@MarthaVan Bill had a lot of cool things to say. I look forward to the follow-up interview after he reaches Mobile.
Thank you so much for sharing w/me. What an (adventure!) inspiration and worthy mission. Please keep me posted with updates. I hope to meet him when he arrives in Mobile!
I haven’t heard from Bill in a few days but I know people are enjoying seeing a part of his journey on the video. As he gets closer to Mobile, I’ll definitely find out where he is landing – maybe you can connect with him and his family there.
That was very cool.
Great inspirational story!
Thanks for the nice comments, Bill and Henry. Definitely cool and inspiring! Look forward to paddling with Bill on moving water soon. I’m guessing he’ll be ready for a little moving water too
